October 12
After three weeks of actual salamander-catching, we've caught and measured a total of 85 salamanders (give or take a few recaptures within those three weeks)! It's been a lot of fun working with them, even if they're way too wiggly for me to feel super confident tagging them with the UV dye yet. Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll get more practice with that.
I think my project for this will involve the recent reporting on the kids who got the red-backed salamander listed as the state amphibian for DC. I need to check with Brian about that, though, since he brought it up on our first week and hasn't mentioned it since. Failing that, though, L and I will be working on creating mesocosm prototypes for Panamanian golden frogs that could count for our project - though it's not directly salamander-related.
